State Water Project hydroelectric generation plants currently provide the largest share of power used to operate
the SWP. Additional energy resources and transmission capabilities are obtained through joint ownerships, exchanges,
and purchase agreements with utilities and marketers throughout California and Nevada. Responsibilities of the Project
Power Contracts Branch include the following:

Develop, negotiate, and administer long-term power and transmission contracts;

Evaluate future power and transmission arrangements for the SWP;

Recommend policies and goals related to SWP operation as an electric utility within the interconnected Western
Electricity Coordinating Council;

Formulate and recommend strategies for the Department’s power marketing program.
